10 sophomore players ready to break through

We are less than a week away from the start of the 2021-22 college basketball season. Everyone is excited to have fans back in the stands and a year that will see some of the most seasoned rosters we’ve seen in a while, thanks to the NCAA eligibility for any player who wants it for an extra year.

Nevertheless, one of my favorite things to watch every year is the developmental steps players make between their first and second season. I love seeing who is going to break out and become a star or a much more important part of their team.

Everyone has their own definition of a “breakout” star, and there are plenty of valid ways to describe someone as a breakout player. So, for the sake of simplicity and simplicity, only players who scored in single grades as freshmen are eligible to make this list. So I would like guys like Kenneth Lofton Jr. from Louisiana Tech or Jaden Ivey from Purdue, because I think they’re going to be the darlings of college basketball this season, but they’ve put in some impressive numbers in their freshman year and don’t quite fit the theme I’m going for here.

With all that in mind, here are 10 sophomores – in alphabetical order – that I think will become much better known to college hoops fans over the course of this season.
