AFCON 2021: Eguavoen should retain Awoniyi, Iheanacho Partnership’-Agali

Former Nigeria international Victor Agali has advised interim Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen to keep the attacking partnership of Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Awoniyi and Iheanacho intervened in the Eagles’ attack against Egypt, the latter scoring the only goal with a brilliant volley.

They were also involved in other opportunities created by the Eagles as they opened their season with the impressive win.

Both forwards should be in action for the Eagles when they face Sudan on Saturday.

And Agali, speaking on ‘No Holds Barred’ on Brila FM, Agali urged Eguavoen to keep the partnership going in the future.

“Iheanacho is not someone you want to play as a winger, so it’s better to have him supporting someone and Awoniyi coming in with his Bundesliga form, and after missing Osimhen, it’s better to leave Awoniyi and have Iheanacho roaming around him. and that happened.

“Iheanacho is someone who can drop in midfield and looking at the formation against Egypt, we played a classic 4-4-2 where we had Aribo and Ndidi in the middle, Iheanacho was like a pyramid up front and supporting the guys behind. So it worked for us because we were very aggressive and we controlled the game, so I hope the coach will keep that.”
