Age of Empires 4 – Can You Rotate Buildings?

So you want to rotate buildings in Age of Empires 4? To be fair, a lot of RTS games with base building and other games let you rotate buildings. For management games and urban building games, rotating buildings are something essential for optimal planning and placement. There are many reasons both why a player wants to rotate a building and why a game would let the building rotate.

In Age of Empires IV, however, it is currently not possible to rotate a building. You can rotate the camera perspective so that you will be able to see all four sides of any given structure and then some, but when it comes to placing it down on the ground, there is nothing you can do but accept the preset rotation.

Currently, there is no real reason why this should be a problem. Apart from legally impassable terrain, the ground around a building will mold itself to the structure being placed. A lattice system also prevents buildings from overlapping, and when it comes to production buildings such as the barracks or the barn, units do not emerge from any fixed point. If you block the ‘entrance’, devices will simply spawn from another side instead.

One could well try to surround a production building completely to disturb the spawning, but then it is A: some rotation will still not be able to help, and B: incredibly hiss.

That’s all there is to say about the subject. If you are looking for other advice, we have a guide on how to pay homage if it is something you have been stuck on, and we also have dedicated civilization guides for the Mongols, English, Chinese, Delhi Sultanate, Rus and Abbasid- dynasty.
