Alabama No. 1 in New AP Top 25 Poll

Alabama is back where it started.

The Crimson Tide opened the 2021 season as the No. 1 team in the Associated Press Top 25 and now they are entering the postseason in the same position after upsetting Georgia in Saturday’s SEC title game.

The Tide jumped from number 4 after the win, while Georgia dropped two places to number 3. In between, Michigan, the Big Ten champion, is at number 2. Undefeated Cincinnati, the AAC champion, is next at number 4.

We’ll see if the College Football Playoff selection committee’s final rankings will follow. They will be revealed later on Sunday.

Notre Dame did not play on Saturday, but moved up a spot to number 5 in the AP poll. The Irish are ahead of Big 12 champion Baylor at number 6, Ohio State at number 7, Ole Miss at number 8, Oklahoma State at number 9 and Pac-12 champion Utah at number 10.

Oklahoma State was No. 5 last week but fell to Baylor in the Big 12 title game. It was a loss that took OSU out of the playoffs.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh moved up four spots to #13 after an impressive win over Wake Forest in the ACC title game. Another conference champion, Sun Belt winner Louisiana, rose from No. 20 to No. 16.
