Football may have its own version of Tonya Harding.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aminata Diallo has been arrested for her connection to an attack on teammate Kheira Hamraoui, L’Equipe reported Wednesday morning.
After a team outing in Paris on November 4, which both Diallo and Hamraoui attended, two masked men pulled Hamraoui from her car and attacked her legs with an iron bar.
According to the newspaper, the motive for Diallo was to get more playing time. Hamraoui was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries to her hands and legs and was set to miss PSG’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday.
“Paris Saint-Germain notes the arrest of Aminata Diallo this morning by the SRPJ of Versailles as part of proceedings launched after an attack against club players last Thursday night,” the team said in a statement.
“Since Thursday evening, November 4, the Club has taken all necessary measures to ensure the health, well-being and safety of its players. Paris Saint-Germain partners with the Versailles SRPJ to shed light on the facts. The Club is closely monitoring the progress of the procedure and will study its follow-up.”
The incident is reminiscent of Harding allegedly behind a seizure that injured figure skating rival Nancy Kerrigan before the 1994 Winter Olympics.
