Arizona vs. Women’s Basketball Game Texas canceled amid COVID-19 protocols; San Diego steps in, takes on Longhorns in Las Vegas

The No. 4 Arizona game against No. 11 Texas on Sunday in Las Vegas was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols and tracing contacts within the Wildcats women’s basketball program, the school announced Saturday.

The game at the neutral venue was part of the Coast-to-Coast Challenge, a men’s doubleheader game between Texas and Stanford.

The Coast-to-Coast Challenge, in partnership with Texas to find a suitable replacement opponent at short notice, was able to secure San Diego late Saturday night, with the Longhorns confirming on social media.

The Toreros (7-3) take on the Longhorns (7-1) on ESPN at 5:30 p.m. ET, completing a bizarre weekend for the Texas program. Before San Diego got into the mix, Longhorns coach Vic Schaefer posted a request on social media, looking for a last minute opponent.

The match-up with the Wildcats would have been a battle of top teams early in the season. Arizona is 10-0 in a top 25 team win already and the Longhorns have a four game winning streak.
