Betsy DeVos publishes ‘Hostages to the Cause’, a book about ‘misguided failures’ of the American education system

FIRST ON FOX: Former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is set to publish a book next summer about the “misguided failures” of the U.S. education system, from the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns to today’s critical race theory battle, her publisher announced Wednesday.

Center Street, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, will publish DeVos’ book on June 21, 2022, titled “Hostages to the Cause: The Fight for Education and the Future of the American Child.”

The book details DeVos’ fight for “groundbreaking reforms in American education after being relentlessly vilified by teacher unions, the media and Democrats,” Center Street said in a press release shared exclusively with Fox News.

She recounts her decades-long struggle to put students first, refers back to ‘awakened’ curricula and policies in our schools, and describes why the struggle for the future of the American child is so vital and important to the future of the American child. country,” the release stated.

The publisher said DeVos, who served as secretary of education under former President Trump from 2017 to 2021, also “candidly” shares in the book her experiences working within the Trump administration.

“The first place in the fight for the future of this country is American schools,” DeVos said in a statement. “The Lefts have taken over in spectacularly horrific fashion, and our students are paying the price. From school closings and learning loss to CRT and the 1619 project, every family has been given a front-row seat to the misguided failures of our education system over the past 18 years. months.”

“It doesn’t have to be that way,” she continued. “As we empower students and families to find the best education for them, their lives will improve, as will the trajectory of our amazing nation. I’m excited to share my experiences and ideas on how we’re going to make that happen.”

DeVos, who had been involved in the school choice movement for decades before becoming secretary of education, recently told Fox News that the nationwide movement against critical race theory (CRT) has skyrocketed in recent months.

“I have been involved in the parental empowerment, school choice movement for 35 years,” she noted. “Over the past year and a half, momentum has grown in ways no one could have predicted before the pandemic.”

The book is expected to delve into the CRT battle and provide “blunt insights” about the “crisis” in American education caused by political correctness.
