An experienced coach, Rana is credited with recognizing talents such as Suranjoy Singh, Vikas Krishan, Shiva Thapa and L Devendro Singh, who over the years brought many laurels to the country.

The BFI has replaced male head coach CA Kutappa with Narender Rana from the Army Sports Institute, according to a PTI report. Interestingly, the World Championship later this month will also mark the end of the term of High Performance director Santiago Nieva.

Rana is a four-time national champion and has been a long-time SSCB coach and has trained with boxers of the caliber of Amit Panghal and Manish Kaushik. In his coaching career, he also saw boxers like Suranjoy Singh, Vikas Krishan, Shiva Thapa, and L Devendro Singh.

“Yes, Mr. Rana will replace me. I am still part of the coaching staff, although not as a head coach,” Kutappa said. Meanwhile, female head coach Mohammad Ali Qamar could also be replaced.

“In all likelihood, he will not continue after that,” a federation source said of the chances of Nieva being retained. Also, the boxers will depart for Serbia on October 20, it is still unclear when the national camp would start for preparations.
