Dog the Bounty Hunter speculated in a new interview that Brian Laundrie — the only person interested in the death of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito — could be a “serial killer.”
“I’m thinking more and more that he might be a serial killer—not just a murderer of Gabby. The books he reads are incredible,” Dog, whose real name is Duane Chapman, told the Sun.
The 68-year-old famed TV star – who has been on the hunt for 23-year-old Laundrie – claimed to have discovered the fugitive’s “demonic past” and his obsession with the “dark side,” according to the news channel.
He mentioned the kind of disturbing books the couple had reportedly read.
“Some of the books he’s read are ten times worse than Dungeon and Dragons. This kid, Brian, clearly took those books to heart. And this is what happens when your kid looks at things like that,” he told The Sun.
“He didn’t become a murderer overnight. A killer is made, and he is built to be a killer,” Chapman continued. “He built himself to be that by looking at that kind of, say, the dark side. There are images of demons everywhere.”
Laundrie once boasted of reading a book about a serial killer and wrote on Instagram that he and Petito had read Chuck Palahniuk’s 2002 horror satire novel “Lullaby,” the news channel reported.
“The damn craziest of all Chuck’s books on my shelf, I can’t believe how he must have written this one! I would love to preach all the insane twists and turns, but all I can say is that I will never forget the name Rant Casey. Or Green Taylor Simms,” he wrote.
“My fiancé and I read this out loud together and boy oh boy, I can’t believe some things come out of our mouths,” Laundrie added.
Palahniuk’s novel is about a journalist writing an article about SIDS when he sees a strange connection between the deaths of babies and those of his own wife and child.
The journalist, Carl Streator, discovers that his family had died after reading them a “clearing song” from a book – then starts killing people over minor annoyances after memorizing the rhyme.
Online sleuths also came across some chilling posts from Laundrie on social media, including one from last year depicting creepy figures with scythes.
“The Grim Reaper leads sheep to the slaughter,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Dog’s daughter Lyssa Chapman teased that “big news” would soon be released about the search for Laundrie.
“Hope I can share BIG news with you tomorrow,” she wrote according to The Sun on Thursday. “For now I have to keep my mouth shut…trust the process.”
