Cameroon advance, but Nouhou loses due to injury

Nouhou started again for Cameroon, their fourth consecutive World Cup qualifier, but was forced out of the game in the 5th minute on Tuesday with an apparently dislocated shoulder. The injury appeared to come in the 1st minute when he jumped over a tackle and landed on his shoulder. He was able to stay inside briefly, but demanded attention after a pass in the 3rd minute.

Cameroon could still forgo the 1-0 win over Ivory Coast. That gave Cameroon victory in the group stage and puts them through to the final round of qualifying where they will be matched against one of the nine teams for a two-legged play-off. The winners of those play-offs will go to Qatar 2022.

Nouhou’s 2021 was interrupted several times by an adductor injury that at one point kept him sidelined for three months. He does have some experience with a shoulder injury that he sustained in 2016 and he eventually played with a brace for a number of years. He may be considered fit for Tuesday’s play-off game, but is likely to miss at least one game.
