Duke basketball bounced back with a great Champions Classic win over Kentucky and the college basketball media were delighted with the action.
The Classic of Champions final on Tuesday night promised to be a great start to the 2021-22 college basketball season with the No. 9 Duke Blue Devils, looking at the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats, the first game in it. which will be Coach K’s last season with the first.
Although it was hotly contested in both halves, it was Duke who ultimately retired with the 79-71 victory. They brought in great performances from their star freshman student, Trevor Keels and Paolo Banchero, who combined for 47 points, until the big win. However, Kentucky held its ground, which was in doubt after a shaky showing against Miles College.
Still, it is the Blue Devils who scored the victory over John Calipari’s team. But after the meeting, the college basketball media was simply blown away by what they saw on the court at Madison Square Garden.
Duke basketball beats Kentucky: college basketball media reactions
The general consensus, though not unanimous, appears to be that both Duke and Kentucky performed well Tuesday night at the Champions Classic and have brilliant seasons ahead.
It is also difficult to argue with that. Clearly, the Wildcats are still brewing, but being with a team as talented as the Blue Devils for 40 minutes and never really being out of it speaks highly of Calipari’s team. And when it comes to talented counterparts, the Coach K Farewell Tour looks set to run smoothly with this group on the court.
