Danny Rose: Watford fullback leaves January transfer window with Hornets close to signing Udinese defender Samir | News about transfer center

Danny Rose’s short-lived Watford stint comes to an end after the fullback was told he will no longer be playing for the club.

Rose only signed a two-year deal with Vicarage Road last June after leaving Tottenham after 14 years, but the Premier League club have made him available for transfer this month.

Earlier this season, Watford manager Claudio Ranieri called on the fullback to return to the best form of his career, having earned 29 caps for England.

“I remember Danny when he played for Tottenham and the England national team and I need this Danny,” said Ranieri.

“I think it’s more a matter of fitness than a matter of confidence. When he came he wasn’t fit and now he’s improved a lot, but he needs to improve even more. It’s hard to say how long that will last though.”

Rose has made nine appearances for Watford this season, taking a fifth booking in their 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City on December 4, but has not been recalled since returning from his one-match suspension.

Watford will not be calling on the 31-year-old’s services this weekend against Leicester in the third round of the FA Cup and have chosen to make him available for transfer during this period.

Meanwhile, the Hornets are close to signing Udinese centre-back Samir.

The 27-year-old Brazilian visited the club’s training ground earlier this week and plans to complete a three-year transfer from the Serie A club, also owned by Pozzo, with an option for a further year.

Watford has already signed Hassane Kamara, while KAS Eupen midfielder Edo Kayembe and Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida have been linked with a move to prevent an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship.
