DC vs CSK | They have beaten CSK twice in the league stage; Our tournament starts now, says Ricky Ponting before Qualifier 1

Ahead of Qualifier 1 against CSK on Sunday, DC coach Ricky Ponting has said his team has beaten the three-time champions twice on the league stage, but will not take the match lightly. Furthermore, he added that the loss to RCB in the previous match will give DC players time to reflect and improve.

The leaders of the Delhi Capitals (DC) table suffered a seven-field loss to the team led by Virat Kohli on Friday in Dubai. In pursuit of a 164-race goal, Srikar Bharat (78 *) teamed up with Glenn Maxwell (51 *) to lead RCB to their ninth win of the season. Bharat hit a final six-ball to Avesh Khan to win his team’s final league game of the 2021 IPL.

However, Ricky Ponting said the loss to RCB will help the players reflect and improve ahead of Sunday’s top seed against Chennai Super Kings in Dubai. He further added that despite losing, DC played better than the last two games they won in the league stage.

“It was a disappointing way for the game to end and for us to lose the way we did, but I’m not at all disappointed about it. In fact, I think it’s a very good thing because it will give the guys a chance to reflect and think about how we can improve for Sunday’s game, ” Ponting said before Qualifier 1.

“It’s a short change, so you have to forget about things and start concentrating on the next game.” He also called the defeat a “step forward.” He calculated that despite losing, the team played better compared to the last two games it won in the league stage.

“As I said before, we have played well cricket, the challenge now for us for the next week is to play great cricket, and I think that is right around the corner for us.”

Speaking about Sunday’s first qualifying match against the team led by MS Dhoni, Ponting acknowledged that the Delhi Capitals are confident as they have beaten CSK twice in league matches.

“I think we should be very confident. We have beaten them twice in league games, but as you know, the playoff games are completely different and our tournament really starts now.”
