The 2021 Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure (Donegal) Hurling Junior and Senior Hurling Championship semifinals will take place on the weekend of Friday, October 8.
The Donegal JHC semi-finals will take place on that date and will see Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon and Setanta B, with Dungloe and Letterkenny Gaels fighting for the final two spots.
The senior semifinals will take place on Sunday, October 10 and will see St Eunan’s and Burt, and Setanta and Buncrana face each other for their place in the county final.
Youth games will be held at the Donegal GAA Center in Ballybofey and both games will be played in the evening.
Dungloe and Letterkenny Gaels will be the first releases at 7 pm, while Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon and Setanta B will begin at 8:30 pm; both games will be under the lights.
The high-level matches will take place in Letterkenny on the St Eunan’s grounds, O’Donnell Park.
The games will be played on Sunday afternoon and Eunan will start the proceedings when they welcome Burt to their home at 2 pm.
Defending champions Setanta will face Buncrana in the last serve of the day at 4pm.
Overtime will be used if necessary in either of the semi-finals of the two championships.
Setanta is seeking a third straight county title and if they beat Buncrana, St Eunan’s familiar foes may stand in their way, awaiting results this weekend.
A Setanta – St Eunan final showdown is a familiar sight in the Donegal SHC, with three of the last four finals involving both sides.
Burt is the last team outside of those two to reach the county final and will look to repeat that feat this Sunday.
The last time the 39-time Donegal SHC winners reached the final, they won the championship, beating Setanta by two goals in 2018.
The most dominant team in the competition’s history will seek to further underscore that status, with a final first appearance in three years on the scorecards.
Buncrana will look to alter the odds and score a historic win against Setanta to reach the SHC final.
The team is in uncharted territory in the semi-finals and their inexperience may cost them, but a loser should never be underestimated.
