Dune Final Trailer is a great, epic introduction to a new Sci-Fi universe

The latest Dune trailer is here. With two weeks to go, Warner Bros. unveiled the third and final trailer for Dune, the epic sci-fi film featuring a star-studded ensemble: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem among others. The latest Dune trailer does a great job of setting up what will be Denis Villeneuve’s film – both from a plot and an aesthetic standpoint – with House Atreides’ ducal heir Paul (Timothée Chalamet) stranded in a swamp after his family finds out about it. has been given stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis which is the source of the universe’s most valuable substance: “herb”.

“The outsiders are destroying our country. Their cruelty to my people is all I’ve known,” Arrakis-born and Paul native Chani (Zendaya) says at the start of the latest Dune trailer, as we see plenty of fire and the face of the sadistic Glossu Rabban (Dave Bautista ) who does what he wants. Elsewhere, Paul (Chalamet) House tries to get Atreides sword master Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) to take him to Arrakis with the advanced team. Idaho says he’ll be court-martialed, but Paul tells me he’s had dreams—that felt like a vision—of a girl killed in battle. It’s Chani.

“Everything that matters happens when we’re awake,” Idaho says bluntly to Paul. Paul gets advice left, right and center in the latest Dune trailer. His father Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) tells Paul that he is the future of House Atreides, while House Atreides’ master of arms Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) instructs him to be ready. “They’re not people. They’re cheeky,” Halleck barks, referring to Rabban and his master, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård). Paul worries if he’s not all these things, and Leto says he’ll still be his son – so that’s fine, you know.

Meanwhile, Harkonnen plots the end of House Atreides and instructs Rabban to “kill them all”. Paul calls it “an extinction. They pick my family one by one.” As Idaho says “let’s fight like demons”, the latest Dune trailer kicks into action gear. We see gigantic explosions, gigantic ships and gigantic sandworms. Hans Zimmer’s riveting score rises in a crescendo, punctuated only by grunts and Paul’s famous words from Frank Herbert’s sci-fi book on which Dune is based: ‘I mustn’t be afraid. Fear is the mind killer. Where the fear is gone, only I will remain.”

Dune hits theaters worldwide and on HBO Max in the US starting October 22. In India, Dune will be available in English and Hindi. Dune is technically Dune: Part One, with Villeneuve working on a planned sequel. The latest Dune trailer teases that too. It ends with Zendaya saying, “This is just the beginning.” A prequel spin-off series, Dune: The Sisterhood, is also in the works for HBO Max.
