The organizers of the Eldoret City Marathon will award their athletes within two weeks of receiving the anti-doping results.
Race director Moses Tanui announced Friday night that the delayed payment was due to waiting for anti-doping results to avoid paying people who violated the rules of the sport.
With so much waiting, the winners of the Eldoret City Marathon that was held on June 6th 2021 will be awarded on October 22North Dakota, 2021.
He said the delay in strict adherence to the anti-doping policy of the race that the race represents.
“A lot of people wonder why they delay giving prize money to athletes because we need clean sports. The Eldoret City Marathon is about taking all the precautions and measures so that the athletes we pay are clean, ”said the two-time Boston Marathon Champion.
He added that Eldoret City means clean sports, revealing that he knows some athletes failed doping tests and that they don’t want to be the ones supporting doping athletes.
“We stand for clean sports and even though we had some delays, it was good that the clean athletes received their quotas,” said the former Vienna Marathon winner, adding that they know their sponsors have been waiting and that we will send out invitations and welcome who will be willing to sponsor next year’s event, the date of which will be announced on the same day as the awards ceremony.
