Emily VanCamp explains the exit of ‘The Resident’ in first interview

Emily VanCamp is officially checked out The inhabitant – and now she explains why.

The TV vet’s four-year stint on Fox’s medical drama came to an end on Tuesday’s episode when Nic succumbed to her car accidents, leaving Conrad (Matt Czuchry) both a widower and a single father (read Czuchry’s thoughts on the departure of his leading lady here).

TVLine broke the news about VanCamp’s departure in August. In an interview with Deadline posted right after Tuesday’s episode, VanCamp confirmed that the recent birth of her first child, daughter Iris, with real-life husband Josh Bowman was a major factor in her decision to leave the series.

“I spent so many years on network television, but then suddenly the priorities shifted,” she told the site. “I think there comes a time in every woman’s life – in every person’s life – when it’s less about work and more about family, and that’s what happened while I was making the show. “Doing episodes in another city and adding COVID to that most of us couldn’t see our families for almost a year. It’s really solidified for me that family is where my heart is right now.”

VanCamp further acknowledged: “It’s such a bittersweet moment for me. I loved doing it The inhabitant so much for the four years I was on it. You often hear that someone leaves a show because something bad has happened or because there is bad blood. But in this case it’s the exact opposite. There is nothing but love and respect between all of us and this decision was not an easy one for anyone. But for me personally it was the right one. I am grateful that I was received with understanding and compassion.”
