Evergreen books 24,000 teu pair with Jiangnan

Taiwanese Evergreen Marine has placed an order with China’s Jiangnan Shipyard for the construction of two 24,000 TEU container ships in a deal worth up to USD 320 million.

The seventh largest liner said the new construction has a price tag ranging between $140 million and $160 million each. No delivery date has been announced for this order. A pair of 24,000 teu ordered in Shanghai in June Hudong-Zhonghua is expected to be completed in 2023-2024.

The latest order ensures that the Taiwanese carrier has the largest order book in the world with 80 ships, followed by Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) with 60 ships under construction. In SeptemberEvergreen booked 24 feeder boxships with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and paid up to $1.1 billion.

According to Alphaliner, Evergreen currently operates a fleet of approximately 207 vessels, including 120 own vessels with a loading capacity of 1.45m teu.
