Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano is facing a defensive crisis ahead of their post-international match against AC Milan, a report shows.
Calciomercato.com reports how Italiano is now dealing with a double suspension as both starting centre-backs Lucas Martinez Quarta and Nikola Milenkovic were banned, the latter also for an outright red card. That means La Viola only has two centre-backs, Nastasic and Igor, but the problems go further than that.
The Serbian national team has summoned Nastasic along with Milenkovic and Terzic, while Argentina has subpoenaed Quarta and the Italian national team called Biraghi. As a result, until Tuesday, November 16, Italiano can only work with two right-backs – Odriozola and Venuti – and central defender Igor.
Until the internationals return, the ex-boss of Spezia will have to play with Venuti and Igor as centre-backs and Benassi and Odriozola as full-backs in training. Nastasic and Igor, the two reserve defenders who play against Milan, are both left-footed and have never been used together in a friendly or in an official match. Their first opponent? Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Olivier Giroud.
