Former Youngstown Journalist Bertram de Souza Publishes New Career Book, Youngstown History

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — A former Youngstown journalist presented his new book at the Boardman Library on Saturday morning.

Former Vindicator columnist Bertram de Souza’s book “No Holds Barred” was featured at the Boardman Historical Society.

It was the kick-off of the association’s annual membership campaign. The book contains columns from Souza’s career with the Vindicator.

11 chapters cover Jim Traficant, the mafia, General Motors in Lordstown and more.

“We spent a year going through each column. There were five of us, all Vindicator people, staffers and journalists, who reviewed each column and picked the best 300 they thought should be in the book,” Souza said.

The book has a podcast related to the columns called the Scribbler’s Group Podcast.

They have a debate among Youngstown’s mayoral candidates on Oct. 19. The podcast is available on the Scribbler Group website.
