Manchester City midfielder Rodri has revealed how he denied Fabinho a goal in the last minute that would have given Liverpool all three vital points in Sunday’s Premier League.
Recall that Fabinho had what appeared to be an empty goal after a free kick went over City goalkeeper Ederson, but Rodri slipped to stop a certain goal and earn a point for his team.
Reacting to the blockade, the Spanish international said: “Sometimes defensive actions are needed and they are just as important as offensive ones,” Rodri said of the blockade.
“Of course, they were close. But he was willing to help the team in that situation. It was a key moment and I was happy to defend that goal. It was almost horrible for us, but it ended 2-2 so I’m happy with that. “
“It’s about the mindset and character of this team. We don’t give up and we are the champions, so we have to face every situation. The way we were losing 1-0 and then 2-1, but we came back with personality, we fought, we never went down and we achieved this point. We are happy but I think we deserved to win.
“We still have young guys on the pitch and I think they have a very experienced squad. Almost the same players every year and it’s not easy to come back like this. They are very tactical, they defend very well and I think these moments give us the feeling that we can win and fight again. It has been an incredible week with three tough games. It’s not easy and everyone was away from home ”.
