resistance after losing wickets from Kohli, Pujara and Rahane.

India lost captain Virat Kohli by the first ball after lunch. And a mini-collapse ensured that they also lost Pujara and Rahane. But Rishabh Pant is in the middle and the lead is already over 250. Former Team India has crossed the 200-run lead in the first session, but they lost the big wicket from KL Rahul, which was rejected by Lungi Ngidi on the 23rd. India recovered well after their departure, with captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara in the middle. At lunch, India scored 79/3, with Kohli looking motivated and Pujara regaining some confidence.

India lost and regained control of the first Test on Tuesday by returning from a batting collapse of seven wickets for 55 runs to exclude South Africa by 197 on the third day.

That gave Virat Kohli’s team a 130-run lead in the first half. It had stretched it to 146 by reaching 16-1 in its second innings on stump on a day when 18 wickets fell – all to fast bowlers.

Ngidi finished 6-71 for his second-best Test figures. His best was against India in Centurion in 2018.

Mohammed Shami followed this lead for India, where the sailor rose to take 5-44 and reach 200 test wickets. With Shami in the lead and Shardul Thakur (2-51) supportive, South Africa were sacked for less than 200 to give India power back, and India did not even feel the temporary loss to the detriment of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (2-16).

The depth and quality of India’s rapid bowling attack – which has not always been the case – may be the deciding factor in finally cracking South Africa.

Thakur emphasized this by playing a crucial supporting role with his two wickets. He forced Quinton de Kock to play on in 34 to break a 72-run partnership with Bavuma and send South Africa’s most dangerous player back.
