Chennai Super Kings will face Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 Qualifier 1 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday 10th October. In their last league match, 3-time champion Chennai lost by 6 wickets to Punjab while Delhi faced a 7- wicket loss against Bangalore.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play Delhi Capitals (DC) with a place in the final at stake. Both teams have been consistent throughout the tournament and will hope to play for the title in the final by winning Qualifier 1.
CSK lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets in their last game. Batting first, CSK scored 134 runs in the first innings. Faf du Plessis batted brilliantly and played a 55-ball 76 knock. KL Rahul fired a 42-ball 98 no-out to demolish CSK’s bowling lineup and win the game for his team in just 13 overs. Shardul Thakur was the bowlers choice with 3 wickets for 28 runs of his spell. The middle order that doesn’t score runs at a fast pace is still a big problem for the team and that can affect its playoff performance. Also, the team has lost its last three games.
On the other hand, DC lost by 7 wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Batting first, Delhi scored 164 runs in the opening innings. Prithvi Shaw was the team’s leading run scorer with a 48-run inning of 31 balls. The opposition chased the taget with a last six from Srikar Bharat. Anrich Nortje was the best pitcher on the team with his 24-run 2-course economy spell. Shaw playing well in the last game was a positive development for the team. In addition, Shimron Hetmyer has started to play the role of finalist at a very appropriate moment in the tournament. Shreyas Iyer’s form is a concern and DC expects their former captain to shoot the team led by MS Dhoni.

As soon as the team confirmed their playoff spot, there was a sudden drop in form. Just two wins out of the last five games, including three straight losses, is a worrying sign. The middle order batting and its rhythm is one more issue. Aside from Ravindra Jadeja, others will also have to step up and provide a strong finish towards the end of the innings. The cloud of doubt about Suresh Raina’s injury remains and Robin Uthappa, the left-hander’s replacement in the last two games, has not acted.

Delhi could have ended the league leg with three straight wins had Srikar Bharat not hit a final six ball to give RCB a thrilling victory on Friday. However, DC are the strong contenders for the title and they don’t seem to have any weaknesses in their game for opponents to explode. That said, the 2020 finalists would want their captain Rishabh Pant and former captain Shreyas Iyer to shoot the bat. Both batting pillars have yet to reach fifty in the UAE leg of the 2021 IPL.
Head to head
Both teams have played 25 matches against each other. CSK has won 15 times, while DC prevailed 10 times. The average score for CSK on the Mathcup is 161 while the overall average for DC is 148.
MS Dhoni has scored 565 runs against DC, while Shikhar Dhawan has amassed 426 runs against CSK. Dwayne Bravo has chosen 16 wickets against the Capitals.
BONS Chennai Super Kings predicted XI
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C&WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazlewood
BONS Delhi Capitals predicted XI
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (C&WK), Ripal Patel, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan, Anrich Nortje
With a fit hitting lineup and a very lethal bowling unit, the capitals of Delhi are the favorites heading into the game.
The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is a balanced field, but it is expected to help the closers in the opening outings. Bowling first after winning the toss should be a preferred option on this playing surface. The team hitting first should look to score a total of around 165, which will be a total winning theme for bowling in the correct areas.
