Jodie Whittaker’s Final Season Gets Trailer, Premiere Date & New Title

Doctor Who announces the season 13 premiere date and title with a new teaser trailer for Jodie Whittaker’s final appearance as the Doctor.

doctor who released the latest teaser for season 13, along with a premiere date and new title for Jodie Whittaker’s final season as the Doctor.

The teaser, posted on the official BBC America YouTube channel, acts like a Whittaker’s Doctor broadcast, warning the viewer that “the Flux is coming”, and a host of classic doctor who villains including the Sontarans, Weeping Angels, “creatures known as the Ravages and enemies from across the universe,” the Doctor warns. Season 13 gets the title flux and will premiere October 31 on BBC America.

Whittaker, who premiered in 2018 as the 13th Doctor, announced that she would be handing over the keys to the TARDIS in 2022 along with current showrunner Chris Chibnall. After three seasons, Chibnall and Whittaker will leave the series with a trio of specials to air in the fall of 2022, which the BBC described as an “epic blockbuster.”

“In 2017, I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes,” Whittaker said, announcing her departure. “I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I would see in it. My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team making it, for the fans who watch it and for what it has brought to my life.”

After the departure of Chibnall and Whittaker, Russell T. Davies will return to the series in 2023. Credited with reviving BBC’s cult sci-fi series in 2005, Davies served as showrunner for doctor who for four years before handing over the reins to Steven Moffat in 2009. It was recently announced that Davies will finally return to the TARDIS as showrunner in 2023 to celebrate doctor who60th anniversary and will be taking over from Chibnall.

Chibnall previously said in a statement that he and Whittaker, who has played the 13th Doctor since 2018, “made a ‘three series and out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime explosion.” Chibnall became the showrunner of doctor who also in 2018, the same year Whittaker made his television debut as the first female doctor. Reports of Whittaker’s impending departure began circulating in January 2021.

In Season 13, Mandip Gill returns as The Doctor’s companion Yasmin Khan, who will be joined by a new companion, Dan, played by John Bishop. Jacob Anderson will also join the cast and play a new character named Finder. Series 13 began filming in November 2020 after delays related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
