When regular starting midfielder Leon Goretzka was unable to play against Union Berlin, many fans and pundits expected Marcel Sabitzer to take on the role of Goretzka in the starting line-up.
Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, however, had other ideas.
Nagelsmann chose to go with the often injured but talented French midfielder Corentin Tolisso rather than the acclaimed former RB Leipzig player. When asked about the decision, Nagelsmann gave his reason for Tolisso’s surprise start. However, Nagelsmann did not want to comment on the current contract situation of the midfielder. It seems, of course, that Tolisso will leave on a free transfer next summer.
“He had a lot of injuries, then also the corona virus. It was just his turn to start now,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by Tz). “He has a good mind, good strength, can play in different positions. I like that a lot. On all contract issues – I think today is the wrong time. I know he has great quality.”
