Mario Lemieux Just Made $350 Million Thanks to the Penguins Payment Issue in 1998

on Nov 16, the Wall Street Journal reported Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the Boston Red SoxLiverpool FC and Roush Fenway Racing are reportedly in “advanced talks” to buy the Penguins.

At the time, theWall Street Journal reported that the proposed deal “could be finalized later this week” if negotiations “do not fall apart” as terms are further discussed, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Fenway Sports Group is led by main owner John W. Henry, who owns an estimated 40% of the shares in the company, and chairman Tom Werner, which controls the second-largest stock package.

In March, the company added the Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James and his old and business partner Maverick Carter as business partners.

James and Carter became FSG’s first black partners, joining Basketball Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Derek Jeter, as the sole black owners of MLB teams in their respective purchases of ownership stakes in the Red Sox.

Michael Silverman by the Boston Globe reported that James bought an “undisclosed number of Fenway Sports Group shares after owning about 2 percent of the Liverpool football franchise since 2011,” at the time of the deal.

The Boston Globe reported that FSG is looking to add more professional sports teams to its ownership portfolio, as well as “betting, esports and data analytics companies” amid reported deals with James and Carter.
