Match Moments

5′ – OBJECTIVE (POR) – The Timbers took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. As Marvin Loría and Yimmi Chara converged on the right, an RSL defender tried to block a pass, but it fell to forward Felipe Mora, who sent the ball to the bottom corner of the goal.

25′ – CHANCE (POR) – Portland worked the ball through the left channel, with Loría leaving a ball near the edge of the RSL 18-yard box for Yimmi Chara to run to. He ripped a 20-yard shot that forced a dive stop from Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa.

32′ – CHANCE (POR) – Yimmi Chara jumped Loría into the penalty area. He dribbled to the endline and took a sharp shot that Ochoa saved with a fingertip. Santiago Moreno found the loose ball but shot his shot high.

33′ – SAVE (POR) – Timbers’ keeper Steve Clark made a world-class save after a scoreless header from inside the six by RSL striker Damir Kreilach.

61′ – OBJECTIVE (POR) – The Timbers doubled their lead in the 61st minute when they broke forward as Moreno led the charge. He unleashed a 25-yard rocket that hit the left post, then hit the keeper and went in to make it 2-0 for Portland. It was Moreno’s first-ever MLS goal.

64′ – SAVE (POR) – At the far end, RSL’s Albert Rusnák shot a shot that dove to the right to smother him neatly.

68′ – CHANCES (POR) – A free kick from Portland found Dario Zuparic at the back post of RSL. He headed the ball back to Jaroslaw Niezgoda, who then headed the ball towards goal, but the attempt was saved from the line. Niezgoda grabbed the loose ball and tapped just over the top corner again.

74′ – CHANCE (POR) – Another Timbers free kick, this time from the left, saw Loría kick a ball into the mixer that headed Zuparic over the goal.

79′ – RED CARD (RSL) – Salt Lake defender Aaron Herrera was shown a second yellow and associated red card for a foul on the far sidelines, leaving RSL with 10 men for the remainder of the game.

85′ – SAVE (POR) – After an RSL corner, they collected the ball wide and Justin Meram sent in a cross. However, Clark made a nice save on Marcelo Silva’s header from Salt Lake.

90+3 – CHANCE (POR) – Diego Valeri curled a near-perfect free kick from 35 yards that Ochoa had to dive to narrowly parry from the bottom corner.

Portland now plays in the 2021 MLS Cup against the winner of the Eastern Conference Final on December 11 at Providence Park (12pm PT, ABC). Ticket information will be announced later this week.
