Nintendo once again dominates Amazon’s annual bestseller list

Throughout the year, online retailer Amazon maintains an updated list of their best-selling products by category.

Undoubtedly. the category that gets the most attention is the one that contains the site’s best-selling video games this year, and this year’s list is unlikely to be any different, especially as it follows a similar trend for 2020.

What happened in 2020?

2020’s list of Amazon’s best-selling titles was dominated by Nintendo.

Not surprisingly, the mega-hit Animal Crossing: New Horizons topped it, and Nintendo managed to raise eight out of the top 10 spots, with only the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us Part II curtail the dominance of the Japanese company.

You can see the full list from last year below:

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (physical)
2. Super Mario 3D All-Stars
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Digital)
Cyberpunk 2077 (PS4)
7. Ring Fit Adventure
8. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
9. The Last of Us Part II
10. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

What does 2021’s Amazon bestseller list look like?

Aside from major (and unlikely) changes over the next few days, Nintendo has once again dominated Amazon’s bestseller list, dominating even more this time around.

Has almost a year to sell, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury topped the list with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Mario Party Superstars and Metroid Dread, the other new games to make an appearance in the top 10.

Of the “older” games, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continued to impress by coming in at an overall third place, and it was not surprising that several other Nintendo Switch receivers, i.a. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made the cut.

The most surprising thing is that you have to reach the 20th place on the list before hitting a non-Nintendo title, the PS4 version of NBA 2K22.

In a year with people like Ratchet and Clank, Resident Evil Village and Deathloop, it is starting to become clear that the switch to digital is a very real thing on other platforms.
