Oculus Quest 2 is still the best way to get into VR if you want a quality experience for cheap money, and this Black Friday we anticipate that sales will skyrocket. Whether or not there are any Oculus Quest 2 Black Friday deals to be found this year, it is very likely that they will sell out sharply.
When the Oculus Quest 2 first rolled onto the market, it gave PlayStation VR a ridiculous round for its money. By the time its first quarter had passed, Oculus Quest 2 sales were estimated to have reached 2-3 million worldwide and around 5 million in the first six months (via androidcentral).
To put the numbers in perspective, it took Sony a good five years to reach that kind of number with the PSVR – meaning that Quest 2 was sold three times faster than one of the most popular VR headsets ever.
It really is not strange. Quest 2 has certainly earned its place at the top of our best VR headset guide thanks to its excellent spec for the price and, of course, how damn easy it is to set up. Literally press a button, turn it on and you are ready thanks to the tracking inside and out.
Oculus has also kept up with software updates and has recently improved the Quest 2 update speed to support 90Hz and even 120Hz in some games. The base model Oculus Quest even underwent a recent 128 GB update, without so much as a price increase – double the storage space for your money.
Plus, the mandatory Facebook login looks like it will soon be no more.
With the latest lack of components we’ve experienced, the independent nature of Quest 2 makes it a perfect alternative to pamper yourself with a GPU upgrade. The fact that you do not need a GPU to experience PC VR will only serve to drive Quest 2 sales more intensely this offering season.
Unbound, you get about two hours of playing time on battery, albeit with lower power and with some trade-offs in the form of graphic fidelity. Alternatively, with a single USB Type-C running from the headset to your PC, you can make the most of the hardware you manage to pack during the season’s specials.
So before Black Friday comes knocking, it might be best to make your Oculus Quest 2 purchase early instead of waiting for Cyber Monday’s trash to roll around. Especially if you can find a 128 GB model.
