Oregon State men’s soccer ranks #1 in coaches poll for the first time in school history

Oregon State men’s soccer continues to deliver significant performance this season as the Beavers took the school’s first number 1 in the National Coaches poll.

The Beavers, who grabbed a Pac-12 title tie last week, are at 12-2-2 with one game left in the regular season. Oregon State earned seven first-place votes and 551 overall points to finish #2 Tulsa.

Earlier this season, Oregon State defeated #1 Washington 3-2 in Seattle. Those two schools will play at Lorenz Field on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the regular season finale. If Oregon State wins or is tied, it will claim the outright conference title. Washington must win to share the Pac-12 title with the Beavers.

Oregon State has never won a Pac-12 title in men’s soccer. The Beavers only league title in men’s soccer came in 1990 when they won the Northwest Collegiate Soccer Conference. OSU’s first year of competition in the Pac-10/12 was 2000.

A win or draw will likely secure Oregon State a top four place in the NCAA tournament, which begins next week. As the first four seeded, OSU is assured of home field until the quarterfinals. The semifinals and finals will be played in Cary, NC

The 48-team NCAA field will be unveiled Monday.

Oregon State is second in the NCAA RPI, just behind No. 1 Washington.
