Our 20 favorite images from ArtPrize 2021

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – ArtPrize 2021 is a wrap.

“Before You Go,” a repurposed payphone where users could hear advice and wise words, recorded by residents of Grand Rapids and beyond, took home the top prize of $50,000. The creative piece was the brainchild of Christian Reichle and his mother, Monica Pritchard.

The 18-day public art competition, which started on September 16, ended on Sunday, October 3. The annual event that first started in 2009 was last held in 2018. The organizers of ArtPrize announced in 2019 that the annual competition would take a year off and in 2020 it had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic .

The international competition is widely recognized as one of the world’s largest public art events. The winner of the main prize was determined by the number of visitor registrations. The prize money for the jury awards was also $50,000.

The popular event showcases the work of artists who work in all media from around the world. The following 20 images are our favorite from ArtPrize 2021.
