Paris Masters 2021: Djokovic reaches Paris Masters semi-finals and is one victory away from retaining #1 spot

Novak Djokovic is through to the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after unseeded victories Taylor Fritz and if he makes it to the finals, it means he will finish the season as No. 1 for a record seventh time.

The Serb waltzed past his American opponent in straight sets and played Hubert HurkaczI Saturday in the semifinals. The Polish player recently qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals to be held later this month.

Djokovic could also see his No. 1 ranking safe if he loses to hurkacz, as long as Daniil Medvedev doesn’t quite go in Paris. The Russian, currently number 2 in the world plays Hugo Gaston in his quarterfinal on Friday night.

If Djokovic triumphs in Paris, but it will be his 37th ATP Masters 1000 title, which would be another world record. He currently shares the record with Rafa Nadal.

The Serbian star has picked up again after the painful defeats at the Olympics and the US Open and is once again on the brink of history.
