Penny Sarver, wife of Suns majority shareholder Robert Sarver, recently sent messages to three former Suns employees, according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes. Her husband is under investigation by the NBA for promoting a toxic workplace.
The investigation into her husband was launched when ESPN detailed in a bombshell report how the majority owner of the Suns allegedly used racially insensitive language and also made lewd and misogynistic comments in the workplace. Those comments even came during staff meetings, including one case where he talked about his wife having oral sex with him, according to ESPN.
“I don’t know how to interpret it other than as a threat,” a former Suns employee told ESPN of the reports.
Penny Sarver confirmed that she had sent the messages, but denied that they were intended to intimidate.
“Over the weekend, I decided to reach out to a few people on my own to try and make things right and tell them how disappointed and hurt I am by the lies that have been circulating about my husband and The Suns organization. “, she said. ESPN. “I shared the betrayal I felt and touched on some of the pain we go through as a family. Any suggestion that I was trying to ‘intimidate’ someone is as foolish as it is wrong and outrageous.”
In the messages, Penny Sarver accuses the employees of lying. She also mentions Earl Watson, the former Suns coach, who told ESPN that Robert Sarver fostered a toxic work environment.
“I know that many bridges have been built between you and Robert and you are very bitter. I want to remind you that real lives are at stake here,” she wrote to a former employee. “Please put your hatred aside and realize how much pain you are causing by spreading lies and fabrication. Is your time in the spotlight so important? If something happens to one of my children, I will personally hold you and Earl Watson responsible. Think to your own child for a second and imagine that the roles are reversed.”
Accusing the employees of lying and telling her how her family could be harmed as a result of the investigation was a common thread running through the messages.
“You are such a liar,” she wrote to another ex-employee. “In your attempt to destroy my husband with… [your] lies – you destroyed my family and children.”
