The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia has woken up to ‘an extraordinary gift’ from $20 million from an anonymous donor family.
Out of nowhere, judging by the stunned reaction. “This incredibly generous gift marks a truly transformative moment for Curtis and will have an immediate, significant impact on our school and students for decades to come,” said Curtis Prez Roberto Diaz.
Tuition at Curtis is free, but the new money will pay for getting rid of student debt on living expenses.
Another goal is to purchase a new organ and train more organists.
As a result of this gift, Curtis’s organ division will reach new heights with the addition of new instruments and a number of new and expanded initiatives, while also strengthening Curtis’ relationships with institutions in the city and around the world. Curtis will have a new organ built for the school so that students will always have a world-class instrument within reach.
