Playground games to enhance Forza Horizon 5 sign language accessibility

Gaming is for everyone and Forza Horizon 5 will make more progress in an upcoming update.

Accessibility has always been a hot topic in the gaming world, and it makes sense that one of the biggest games right now is doing more for the various players out there. Playground Games, developers of the acclaimed Forza Horizon 5, have announced plans to add sign language support to cutscenes to enhance the game’s accessibility features.

The news comes via an Xbox News Wire post where Creative Director Mike Brown emphasizes the team’s commitment to accessibility throughout the development of Forza Horizon 5.

“We believe that design for the billions of people on this planet starts with designing for just one and extending to many, and that accessibility should be considered from the start of product design. We are committed to providing resources and support to make it easy to build accessibility into games, ”Brown explained.

As such, an upcoming update will see the fruits of the team’s work on working on American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) support for movies in Forza Horizon 5. This will then add a picture-in-picture display near the bottom of the screen of an ASL / BSL interpreter when playing movies.

There is no doubt that Forza Horizon 5 already has some robust accessibility features, such as speed adjustments, high contrast and color blindness modes, custom subtitles and more. The new sign language support is another big step towards inclusive play for all.
