Roster moves New York Giants: Elerson Smith activated from IR

Elerson Smith, the New York Giants’ fourth round in the 2021 NFL Draft, will make his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Smith, who was on IR with a hamstring injury he sustained just before training camp, was activated on Saturday.

The Giants also pull two players – linebacker Trent Harris and return specialist Pharoh Cooper – from their exhibition squad for Sunday’s game.

Smith, 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, has not played in a game since the end of the 2019 season. The former Northern Iowa star missed the 2020 season when the Missouri Valley Conference canceled the game due to COVID-19.

Harris was removed from the practice squad for Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He played seven defensive snaps, with one tackle.

Cooper, a veteran return man who was All-Pro in 2017, was signed to the practice squad earlier in the week. The Giants have lost returners CJ Board, Jabrill Peppers and Dante Pettis to injuries this season.
