Saints Row delayed all the way back to August 2022

Saints Row PS5 PS4

The release schedule for February 2022 has just gotten a little easier, as developer Volition confirms that it has delayed Saints Row until August 23, 2022. The game was originally launched the same day as the Elden Ring for PlayStation 5 and PS4. Now it’s going to be a summer release that gives the studio more time “to create the best Saints Row game yet”.

Chief creative director Jim Boone explained how the team underestimated the impact the global pandemic would have on the development of the official Saints Row website. “The team just needs more time to make our vision fair; we’re making some tweaks and there will not be much change in the game outside of the overall quality and polish.” The size and scope of the title means that Volition simply needs more time to get everything right, Boone explains.

Delaying the game allows for further polishing and other game improvements, but the story and characters will not be changed in any way. “Rest assured that there will be no changes in the story or the characters or anything that we have lovingly imagined over the last few years and have already shared with you.” There was some backlash to the title’s character design and visuals at its initial announcement, but this new update reinforces the fact that Volition “will not back this game”. The design of the world and its characters are here to stay.

Even though that means there is one game less to play at the beginning of next year, there is still so much to look forward to. February alone still has Dying Light 2, Sifu and the aforementioned Elden Ring. Then there is Gran Turismo 7 right afterwards in early March.
