Samoa’s proposal Tietie Tuimauga joins Connacht

Connacht has joined their draft for 2021/22 with the signing of loose-headed mainstay Tietie Tuimauga.

The 28-year-old Samoan recently moved from former New Zealand team Manawatu, winning two international matches with the Samoa National Team over the summer, playing Tonga and the Maori All Blacks.

Connacht has been looking to bring in an extra loose-head mainstay this season, and Denis Buckley will likely be out of the game until the new year and continue his rehab from a long-term knee injury late last year.

Tuimauga will be linked with the team in the coming weeks in order to be available for selection later in 2021.

Commenting on the signing, head coach Andy Friend said:

β€œIt is no secret that we have been exploring more loose head options following Denis Buckley’s long-term injury, so we are very excited to welcome Tietie to Connacht. We now have solid coverage across our entire front row, which is a good place to be, and with Tietie’s experience, he will offer us something different.

We now have a Pro team of 44 plus a number of built-in Academy players, so I’m really satisfied with the group we’ve put together. Our only goal now is to build on last week’s win when we meet the Dragons on Saturday. “

Following their initial URC loss to Cardiff, the Westerners were victorious 34-7 with a bonus point win against the Bulls last week.

Andy Friend’s team will face the Dragons at the Sportsground next Saturday, before the interprovincial block of the season.

Connacht will travel first to Thomond Park to face Munster, before taking on Ulster at Aviva Stadium on October 23, in what will become the first major sporting event in Ireland without a restricted Covid-19 capacity.
