This week Paramount Pictures unveiled the first trailer for The Lost City, a romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, out March 25.
The Paramount feature, previously titled The Lost City of D would be in line with Robert Zemeckis’ classic Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. It follows reclusive novelist Loretta Sage (Bullock) as she embarks on a book tour with her cover model Alan (Tatum), as she watches the pair get dragged into a kidnapping attempt that lands them on a killer jungle adventure.
In the trailer, we are introduced to Fairfax, a rich character played by Daniel Radcliffe who is a fan of Sage’s books, and is convinced that she can help him find the treasure at the heart of her latest (fictional) work.
“I must respectfully decline,” says Sage, to which Fairfax responds, “I’m afraid I must insist.”
After Sage’s kidnapping, Alan declares that he will be the one to save her – to prove to the author that he is more than just a cover model.
When Alan catches up with Sage, he tells her not to worry — after all, he’s “certified in CPR,” “certified in CrossFit,” and has snacks.
But “this is not a novel,” she warns. “Jungles eat people like us.”
Later, we are introduced to another unnamed character played by Brad Pitt, who is also determined to save her.
“Why are you so handsome?” Sage asks Pitt’s character when he ducks in to save her. “My father was a weatherman,” he replies with a sigh.
Aaron and Adam Nee wrote the script The Lost City, based on a design by Dana Fox and Oren Uziel, and directed the film, which also stars Patti Harrison, Oscar Nunez and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Bullock, through its Fortis Films, co-produced with Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions and Seth Gordon of Exhibit A.
