Solskjaer Benching Ronaldo Sackable Offense

Former Aston Villa star Gabriel Agbonlahor said Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves to be fired for benching Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday.

Agbonclaim declared this after Saturday’s meek 1-1 draw at home with Everton.

Andros Townsend rewarded Everton’s pressure by canceling Anthony Martial’s first goal since February.

But Agbonlahor highlighted Solskjaer’s decision to leave Ronaldo out.

The Portuguese legend entered United 1-0 up, having scored five goals since his deadline return from Juventus.

And Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “It is a dismissible offense not to initiate Ronaldo on himself.

“He’s on that team to win the Premier League this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not going to win the league for Manchester United.

Despite criticism of Solskjaer for leaving Ronaldo on the sidelines, Ajax hero Danny Blind insists the former Real Madrid star is forcing United to shed “his family patron”.

Blind told Dutch newspaper Sportnieuws that Ronaldo causes “miscommunication” and other problems by not putting pressure on defenders not to touch the ball.

He said: “Ronaldo doesn’t really need to play an active role.

“Like: ‘take your time.’ You also see the other players looking at you like, ‘how are we going to solve it then?’

“Normally, the striker runs from one center-back to another. This caused a lot of miscommunication. Now, they are not playing in their familiar pattern.

“When the ball was deflected, you saw Paul Pogba training who they had to put all the pressure on.

“Ronaldo didn’t do that, he didn’t. He only thinks about goals and hopes that others conquer the ball ”.
