Southampton midfielder Nathan Tella has expressed his greatest desire to represent the Nigerian Super Eagles in a major competition.
The 22-year-old in an interview with HampshireLive, confessed that it would be a ‘dream’ to wear the famous green and white colors of Nigeria.
Tella also insisted that he has been aware of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon due to Nigeria and his Southampton teammate Moussa Djenepo playing for Mali.
“I would love to play international soccer,” Tella told HampshireLive.
“That has always been a dream of mine. If I went to Nigeria it would be something new and the new experiences would bring out the best in the players. When I look at Che [Adams]I see that he has come back from Scotland a more mature player. There’s no reason why you can’t do that; become a more mature person.
“Whatever happens in the future, I’m just focused on being here and, yes, trying to score goals and help the team win and progress. I always keep an eye on AFCON. I am Nigerian so I always want to concentrate and watch the games.
“Obviously when I have any of my teammates (Moussa Djenepo, Mali) out there, I really want to know how they are doing. I am happy that he won yesterday, despite the finish, but it was good that he was able to win and I wish him all the best.”
