The Game Awards 2021 reveals its nominees for this year’s event

Some big nods to smaller teams and also, Cyberpunk?

Game Awards 2021 has unveiled its list of nominees for this year’s event. Couples for any award ceremony, there are definitely some pleasant surprises and interesting choices.

Host Geoff Keighley announced the series of 2021 Game Awards nominees today during a livestreamed special that runs down the list of games in each category. The elections were decided by ballot, with over 100 media and influencer businesses participating.

Some pleasant surprises were in store for indie teams that some of this year’s hidden gems like Chicory: A colorful tale, Encryption, Loop Hero, and more receive nominations. Leading the pack were some anticipated AAA games, among others Deathloop, Return, Psychonauts 2, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Xbox / Bethesda was the most nominated publisher, followed by Sony, EA and Square Enix.

Also, Cyberpunk 2077 appears in the Best RPG category. It clears the bar as a launch in December 2020, but it is a strange choice up against fierce competition in the form of Tales of Occur, Monster Hunter Rise, Scarlet Nexus, and Shin Megami Tensei V.
