The Station Eleven teaser gives a first look at the post-apocalyptic series

HBO Max on Tuesday released the first teaser trailer and images of its upcoming post-apocalyptic limited series Station eleven.

Adapted from Emily St. John Mandel’s novel from 2014 of the same name, Station eleven follows the stories of several survivors who, in the wake of a global pandemic that is destroying large parts of the planet, are searching for a means to recreate and rebuild what they have lost.

Participating in an ensemble ensemble, including Mackenzie Davis (Black mirror), Himesh Patel (Yesterday, Tenet), and Gael GarcĂa Bernal (And your mother too, Old), the 10-episode series is executive-produced and written by Patrick Somerville (Made for love, Insane) – who also acts as the series’ showrunner – and directed by Hiro Murai (Atlanta).

The teaser opens on Jeevan (Patel) and Kirsten (Matilda Lawler) at checkout in a supermarket at night in the early days of the pandemic. When asked by the cashier if the reason they buy so much food is because of “that thing” and if he should go somewhere, Jeevan calmly tells the man to go home before continuing to push a series of carts through a snow-covered parking lot. . The trailer cuts to changing scenes, probably before and after the pandemic, with images of hospitals teeming with frightened masses, burning Ferris wheels, a caravan of horse-drawn campers driving along a road by the river, and an ominous crane-masked figure in what looks out to be a wedding dress with a lit torch.

Station eleven was originally announced and commissioned back in the summer of 2019, and it is a colossal understatement to say that the series is being released in a radically different world than the one it was originally envisioned. The series, just like Netflix Sweet tooth or Hulu’s Y: The last man, is another post-apocalyptic drama whose premise for a worldwide pandemic has received a newfound and eerie resonance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming for the series began in Chicago in January 2020, but due to COVID-19, production was moved to Mississauga, Ontario, and completed in July last year.

Station eleven premieres on HBO Max on December 16th.
