The Afrobeats star appeared on New York radio station Power 105.1 on Friday and said she is refusing to pay a blackmailer who threatens to release the video.
“I’m not going to call it a sex tape, but it’s a tape between me and the person I’m dating now,” she told presenter Angie Martinez.
According to Savage, the unnamed blackmailer obtained the footage after her lover accidentally posted it on Snapchat. Although he quickly removed it when he realized his mistake, it was already caught by a third party, she said.
Savage said she cried when her highway manager heard about the leak Thursday, who was sent the video.
She told Martinez she would not give in to the blackmailer’s demands, adding that even if she paid, there was no guarantee they wouldn’t release the footage anyway.
“I don’t want anyone blackmailing for something natural,” she said.
Savage said she made the blackmail public so she could control the story: “I’m so mad I could put it out myself… You’re not making any money off this.”
She also said her partner went “crazy” with the leak, expressing fears it would hurt her career and have a detrimental effect on her six-year-old son when he was older.
“I don’t want this to overshadow what I’m doing,” she added.
CNN has reached out to Savage’s representatives for further comment.
