18:41 PST — Travis just posted a video, echoing most of what we’ve been told — he is devastated and unaware of the gravity of the situation. Travis says he always tries to take care of his fans, and last night it obviously went very wrong.
He urges anyone with information about the deaths or suspicious circumstances surrounding what happened to contact authorities.
Travis Scott was especially oblivious to what was happening around him on Friday night during his Astroworld set — including the fact that people were dying around him… TMZ has learned.
Sources of direct knowledge tell TMZ… Travis is utterly devastated by what happened Friday, and he is beside himself about it. We’ve been told he’s been crying since it all happened, and that he’s an emotional wreck.
We were told that he was unaware of the magnitude of what was happening around him — people going into cardiac arrest, etc. — and that he thought the few people he saw being treated were people who were just had passed out from dehydration.
It’s not uncommon for things like that to happen…especially at a packed festival like this.
We were told that Trav stopped the show a few times to check on people who appeared to be unconscious or in distress, and to alert security and other staff for help. But our sources say he just didn’t realize how bad it really was.
Not only that, but we were told that neither he nor his camp were even informed about deaths or hospitalizations until after the show ended. As we reported… a total of 8 people have died so far, and dozens more were injured and hospitalized, including several minors.
As regards Kylie …our sources say she too is quite upset and tries to comfort Travis by being there for him.
As we first told you, there were sightings of at least one person being stabbed in the neck with a needle… something the Houston Police Department confirmed as accurate. It’s unclear whether that led to all cardiac arrests, or just one or a few – but it will certainly be considered part of the wider probe.
Travis, who is working with authorities, said Saturday he was heartbroken about everything, and sent his love to the families of those affected.
