Two freshmen to red shirt season 2021-22

MADISON — freshman attackers Chris Hodges and Matthew Mors plans to redshirt the 2021-22 season, UW Athletics announced Tuesday night. Both players explain their decisions in a press release.

“I decided to use this season of the Red Shirts as an opportunity to continue growing and develop as a student athlete for another year,” Hodges said. “I am still very excited about what this year will bring and the blessing of being connected with my teammates, coaches and the staff here in Wisconsin.”

Mor said: “After talking to Coach Gard, the staff and my family, I thought in the long run it would be best for me to have a red shirt this season,” said Mors. “To get my body ready and Preparing for this level of play, both mentally and physically, I felt this was the best decision for me now.”

Both played in UW’s exhibition game against UW-Whitewater. In just over six minutes of action, Hodges scored two rebounds, one on the offensive and defensive side of the floor. Mors played just over eight minutes and also grabbed two more rebounds. He missed the only shot he took.

The 6-foot-9 Hodges was a three-star prospect from 247Sports. The Schaumburg, Illinois native did not have a senior high school season due to COVID-19. He averaged 15.5 points (69.8% FG), 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game as a junior en route to Mid-Suburban League West Player of the Year honors.
