What job is Frank Lampard waiting for? – The Athletic

Another job comes and goes, and Frank Lampard remains unemployed.

Lampard’s decision to take his name out of consideration to replace Daniel Farke at Norwich City, as he did after talks with the club last week, was perfectly sensible in itself – this is a club seemingly stuck in the perpetual uncertainty between the Premier League and the Championship, which are once again heading for the latter after just a season in the former.

But the number of jobs that floated in Lampard’s sphere before it went to someone else is piling up. Over the summer, he was interviewed by Crystal Palace, but it didn’t go smoothly and Patrick Vieira was appointed instead. He was reportedly a contender for the England Under-21 job, but the FA preferred internal candidate Lee Carsley. He was in the Newcastle mix but, as with Norwich, apparently popped out of it.

There are also ties to Rangers, but even if the Ibrox hierarchy are fans of his leadership qualities, they certainly have a responsibility not to replace Steven Gerrard with Lampard. The jokes would write themselves (quite literally: one goes, the other stays), but football would certainly collapse under the sheer weight of the story.

In these situations, the mind always goes to Alan Curbishley.
