WWE SmackDown results, recap, ratings: Daniel Bryan gains momentum at WrestleMania, Logan Paul debuts on television

With WrestleMania less than two weeks away, the image of the SmackDown universal title continued to dominate the show. Edge started the night by stating his intentions now that the WrestleMania universal title match has turned into a triple threat match.

Daniel Bryan was the only one of the three superstars who found himself wrestling on Friday. Bryan looked to gain momentum towards the marquee pay-per-view as he was scheduled to face Jey Uso in a street fight. During the Bryan vs. Uso match, Edge served as a guest commentator and voiced his opinion even more on the triple threat match.

CBS Sports was with you all night, bringing you recaps and highlights of all the ThunderDome action.

Edge defines himself as the “supreme opportunist” once again

The show opened with Edge arriving in the ring to address the triple threat match that was made official for WrestleMania. He began by saying that the events of Fastlane and Smackdown last week could have been avoided. He compared Daniel Bryan to a run over and accused Bryan of fighting his way through the universal title match at WrestleMania. Edge was intrigued by the prospect of teaming up with Bryan to face Roman Reigns and Jey Uso at Fastlane. However, Edge said it was not enough for Bryan. Edge did not see Bryan coming and went over the scenarios that Bryan set out to participate in a universal title match, be it facing the winner of Reigns and Reigns immediately afterward or even on the second night of WrestleMania. Following Adam Pearce’s decision, Edge said they got over him and he was definitely mad at Bryan.

Edge claimed that he liked what he saw in the mirror after last week’s events. He finally saw the Rated-R superstar staring at him. Edge didn’t think Pearce, Reigns, or Bryan understood the ramifications of what happened. Edge also said he snapped after Pearce turned it into a triple threat match and finally woke up. Edge called himself the man Reigns and Bryan aspire to be and emphasized that he is a legend and the ultimate opportunist. Edge finally thinks he’s the Rated-R Superstar once again and said it felt good when he hit Bryan and Reigns with repeated chair hits.

Additionally, Edge was interviewed behind the scenes about Bryan taking significant damage at the hands of Jey Uso in a street fight later on on SmackDown. He had no feelings for Bryan and he wouldn’t care if Bryan couldn’t compete at WrestleMania.

Daniel Bryan defeat. Hey use via submission. After the match started, Roman Reigns came out and sat at the top of the ramp. Uso continued to take her to Bryan throughout the match, including using a chair and a steel chain to punish Bryan. However, Bryan rallied to inflict some punishment on Uso when he landed several steel chair shots on Uso’s back. Bryan then fired a barrage of shots at Uso with the steel chain and delivered Uso with the Yes Lock. Immediately after the match ended, Bryan ran a knee into Edge at the comment counter and then bounced Edge’s head off the ring post multiple times. After finishing Edge, Bryan ran to the top of the ramp and hit Reigns with another knee. Also, Bryan performed another Yes Lock on Reigns on the ramp. SmackDown concluded with Bryan standing up.

Edge delivered a tremendous promo to kick off the night by revealing that he is defining himself as the ultimate opportunist once again. The full heel turn is almost complete for Edge and it was amazing to see the return of the Superstar Rated-R. SmackDown ended with Bryan defeating Uso as expected, but seeing Bryan break up and take Edge and Reigns out added even more excitement to the story. WrestleMania can’t come soon enough. Grade A
