Xavier Bourgault Team Canada World Juniors

Striker Xavier Bourgault could miss time after taking a hard blow to the head in Team Canada’s opening match for juniors against the Czech Republic, according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.

“No official word yet on concussion / no concussion, but I would be surprised if he trains today and / or plays tomorrow against Austria,” tweeted McKenzie, adding that we may know more after Canada’s skate on Monday.

According to McKenzie, if Bourgault does not play on Tuesday against Austria, it will open the door for 14th forward Logan Stankoven to retire.

Bourgault played 11:20 ice time in Canada’s 6-3 victory Sunday night, counting two shots on the net. He sustained the potential injury in the third period.
